Sacred
Hearts Science Symposium for Girls
ASCE
Hawaii Section Membership Chair Lori Nishida and ASCE Hawaii Section YMF
President Jamie Hikiji assisted with a presentation about the Engineering
profession as a career and a hands on activity, the Sticky Spaghetti Tower.
Teams of students worked to create the strongest, tallest tower out of
uncooked spaghetti noodles and mini marshmallows. YMF also provided
a handout (from Lorna Heller) about civil engineering in Hawaii.
The girls
of Sacred Hearts Academy really seemed to enjoy the activity, and working
together. Participation in the Science Symposium is an easy way to
introduce young girls to the engineering profession. |
