ASCE
YMF Hiking Trip
On Saturday,
June 22, 2002, ASCE’s Younger Member Forum (YMF) hosted their first social
activity of the summer on the Nu`uanu-Judd trial. Twenty-seven people
and one canine showed up at 8:30 in the morning, even though rain threatened
overhead. Everyone enjoyed the 5-mile round trip trail, which was
a combination of a valley loop and a ridge climb. The trail also
included stream crossings, a bamboo forest, a Cooke Pine tree grove, beautiful
panoramic views of Nu`uanu and downtown Honolulu against the breathtakingly
blue ocean, crossing the Pahoa Flats, as well as an unbelievable view of
the Pali at the end. The best part of this hike was getting to meet
other young and young-at-heart engineers in our community. There
was pleasant mixture of civil engineers from diverse disciplines and overlapping
interests. As a closure for this social, a hearty meal was shared
by devouring delivered bentos from Sugoi’s, which was waiting for us at
the end of the trail. To sum it up, we had good food, good
fun, with (newly) good friends.
