On Saturday,
March 31, 16 members of the American Society of Civil Engineer - Hawaii
Section Younger Member Forum (YMF) and seven members of the ASCE University
of Hawaii Student Chapter volunteered 90 minutes of their time and energy
to stencil over 100 storm drains in the Kakaako Business District. After
the work was completed, the YMF and Student Chapter enjoyed a luncheon
at the Kakaako Waterfront Park sponsored the YMF.
Storm Drain
Stenciling is a volunteer program sponsored by the City and County of Honolulu.
The program was established to educate the local community and minimize
the amount of pollutants entering our storm drain system. Volunteers stencil
the City's "Dump No Waste - Goes to Ocean" fish logo onto the storm drains
to inform people as to where their litter will eventually end up.
