Program: Upcoming improvements to the ASCE 7 (2010) wind design provisions and the new generation of local wind maps for the Hawaiian Islands by Mr. Gary Chock, S.E., President of Martin & Chock, Inc.

Mr. Chock is President of Martin & Chock, Inc. and is an experienced and well-respected structural engineer, researcher, and member of the ASCE 7 Wind Load Subcommittee that develops the wind load standard.  He will discuss 1) upcoming improvements to the ASCE 7 (2010) wind design provisions and 2) the new generation of local wind maps for the Hawaiian Islands.  He has conducted extensive wind engineering research that included CFD modeling and wind tunnel testing of the complex topography of the Hawaiian Islands.  His past research led to the development of wind topography adjustment factors for the Island of Oahu that are currently found in the amendments of the City and County of Honolulu applicable to the 2003 International Building Code.
