​POSITION SUMMARY:
Makes office and field studies of proposed projects and supervises preliminary and final surveys; makes survey computations and prepares preliminary drawings; designs and assists in the design of reservoirs, retaining walls, bridges, culverts, tunnels, pipelines, sewers, sidewalks, highways and other concrete, steel and timber structures by computing grades and alignments, loading and stresses, determining size, proportion and dimensions of structures, and supervising the preparation of construction plans and drawings; assists in the preparation of specifications and contract documents; checks shop drawings; prepares costs and quantity estimates; supervises construction and inspection activities; interprets plans and specifications; changes and corrects plans; makes hydrologic and land development studies; checks plans and specifications of buildings and structures for compliance with the building code; reviews test reports and soil analysis reports.

Current Vacancies:
Board of Water Supply (Construction Branch):  Plans and coordinates construction and inspection activities in maintaining standards in the construction of various major complex construction projects (pipeline, reservoirs, booster stations, pump stations, etc.); develop, review, and process plans, specifications, estimates, and contract documents for construction activities ensuring proper compliance; and provides oversight and technical assistance to construction inspectors during field inspections throughout various construction phases and projects.  There are currently three vacancies. 

Department of Design and Construction (Facilities Division - Construction Management Branch):  There are currently two vacancies.

Department of Environmental Services (Environmental Quality Division): There are currently two vacancies.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in Civil Engineering.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

Three years non-registered professional Civil Engineering experience.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:

  1. Current State of Hawaii registration as a professional engineer in Civil Engineering. Applicants with an out-of-state license in Civil Engineering must obtain the Hawaii license prior to appointment.
  2. ​​Valid Hawaii State driver's license (Type 3) prior to appointment.

You must submit evidence of your education and professional license within 7 days of filing your application. A reproduced copy of your diploma and/or transcript which shows the embossed seal must be submitted in order to be given credit for the education requirement. Copies will not be returned.
