Civil Engineer

 The challenge? Helping our communities stay safely on the move.  Due to continued success and business growth, our Honolulu office is seeking an energetic Civil Engineer to join our team. Our local team will provide you with the opportunity to work on exciting and engaging infrastructure projects. Each day, you will use your skills and contribute to work on complex, multi-disciplined projects in planning, design and construction in connection with complex, multi-disciplined projects. In this position you will be exposed to a wide-range of projects involving civil site design, grading, drainage, traffic operational analyses, safety studies, and roadway planning, geometric design, and construction. You will have the opportunity to utilize your knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures to complete your assigned tasks in a team environment.

Our ideal candidate is a self-motivated professional with a BSCE (MS preferred) with one to two years of prior experience in civil design and/or traffic engineering. Hold an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification. Effective verbal and written communication skills are important for client interaction and career advancement. Experience working with Microstation, Inroads, and/or AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Highway Capacity Manual preferred. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Gain experience in various aspects of roadway design including roadway goemetrics design, drainage design, permitting, signing,      pavement marking design, or traffic signal design
• Assist in the preparation of project reports
• Prepare roadway plans, detail drawings, project specifications, and cost estimate
• Review roadway plans, performing horizontal and vertical roadway alignment calculations and utility research and coordination
• Provide construction inspection and oversight on various roadway construction projects
• Develop and produce conceptual, preliminary and final roadway design drawings
• Perform design quantity calculations
• Conduct field survey and data collections for transportation project assessments

Basic Qualifications:
• 1-2 years of prior experience in civil design and/or traffic engineering
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification

Water Engineer

Support/lead engineers and scientists within the Water team in the Honolulu office.  The successful candidate will work on studies, designs, and field assignments for wastewater, stormwater, water supply, drainage, and conveyance projects in Honolulu and across the State. The role will involve working with multi-disciplinary teams through the planning, design, and implementation phases of projects completed for municipal, private, state, and Federal clients. Typical job responsibilities are listed below.

This individual will also assist with delivering projects and serving and developing clients. Responsibilities include direct communications with clients on technical design topics and project schedule/budget/scope; leading project teams and communicating amongst diverse design disciplines; developing, staffing, and coordinating effective quality management processes for each project; establishing long-term client relationships and supporting business development activities. Candidates should be self-motivated, detailed oriented, quality driven, and team-focused.

• Lead project teams on the delivery of wastewater treatment facility and conveyance designs and related studies.
• Assist or lead the investigation and review of technologies, equipment, and decision analysis.
• Perform sophisticated and complicated designs and calculations in accordance with established standards
• Supervise, train, and mentor less experienced project engineers and designers
• Support procurement activities including supplier qualifications, bid reviews, review of design drawings and supplier documents,    successful resolution of manufacturing discrepancies, support for installation, generation of as-built drawings, and onsite support
• Participate in the development of engineering studies and cost estimates
• Participate in construction support activities including responses to requests for information (RFIs), submittal reviews, construction site  visits, and design revisions/ management of change, startup and commissioning and trouble-shooting.
• Prepare design milestones and schedules, staffing schedules and man-hour estimates
• Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of engineering reports, studies, calculations, and check sets
• Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and vendor bid evaluations.
• Participate in the generation of proposals, scopes, schedules and budgets.
• Pursue new work as proposed project manager and/or design manager on competitive pursuits, including positioning, proposing, and      negotiating contracts

Basic Qualifications:

• BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
• Professional Engineer in the State of Hawaii, or the ability to obtain reciprocity within 3 months of start date
• Five (5) years experience in working with municipal clients in engineering or project management roles
• Five (5) years of experience in written and verbal communication of project plans and presentations
• Five (5) years of experience with design of municipal wastewater facilities and/or conveyance infrastructure
