Civil Engineering Benefits

ASCE has met with national lawmakers in Washington, D.C., to introduce bills to benefit the civil engineering profession.  ASCE has issued Infrastructure Report Cards through press conferences to inform the nation and our leaders to the urgent need of additional funding for infrastructure improvements throughout the United States.

The ASCE Education Committee has worked with West Point Academy to develop an interactive bridge design contest on the internet to get elementary, middle and high school students more interested about civil engineering.

The ASCE Hawaii Section is one of the more active sections in the nation.  The Hawaii Section was selected as the 2006 Region 8 & 9 Outstanding Section and Branch Web Award.  Region 8 includes all sections within the states of Alaska, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Arizona, Nevada and Hawaii.  Region 9 includes all sections within the state of California.

Our Legislative Committee has met with lawmakers to introduce bills to improve the current engineering profession in Hawaii.

Our Outreach Committee has promoted the civil engineering profession in schools to preserve our future.

Our national award winning Younger Member Forum has organized a successful PE Refresher Course, promoted the civil engineering profession through its community activities and has assisted the engineering students at the University of Hawaii at Manoa with the transition to the working world.
