On July 15, 2006, ten volunteers from the Hawaii Section YMF assisted with the 59th Annual Friends of the Library of Hawaii booksale. This annual event held at McKinley High School helped to raise an event record of $180,000. Proceeds from the sale will help libraries across the State and continue to support reading programs, scholarships, continuing education, and other community activities. Our YMF volunteers helped during the final day of the sale with packing books, removing shelves, and transporting boxes to donation centers and storage facilities.

A very special mahalo the Rosmary Chong and Byrde Cestare from the Friends of the Library of Hawaii for organizing this event and for allowing us to participate in such a successful event. Thanks to all the Hawaii Section YMF volunteers for participating!

The 59th annual Friends of the Library of Hawaii Booksale will be held on Saturday July 8 through Saturday July 15 at the McKinley High School Cafeteria. Over 100,000 books will be offered for sale. There are books in every category and for every age group. We also have a large selection of CDs, videos, DVDs, records and books on tape. Collectible books will also be available in the “glass case” section.

The Friends of the Library of Hawaii was founded in 1879 and is one of the oldest and most active Friends groups in the country.  Over the past 126 years, the Friends of the Library of Hawaii have contributed over five million dollars to Hawaii's libraries.

          Saturday, July 8 and Sunday, July 9                  9 am until 9 pm 
          Monday, July 10 through Friday, July 14           10 a.m. until 9 pm
          Last day--Saturday July 15                               9 am until noon

Member Only Preview Event:  If you are a member of the Friends of the Library of Hawaii or would like to join, you are invited to a special members only booksale preview on Friday, July 7, 5 pm- 8 pm.

Monday, July 10 - seniors (65 and over) receive 10% discount
Tuesday, July 11 - Members' Discount Day. Friends of the Library of Hawaii receive 10% off on all purchases.
Wednesday, July 12 - Show your Hawaii library card and get 10% off
Thursday, July 13 - 50% off all fiction and records
Friday July 14 - all items are half price
Saturday July 15 - all items are 50 cents, paperbacks two for 50 cents
